Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Aggrawal, along with executive members, met Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle on Tuesday to discuss the current situation of Nepal’s economy and possible opportunities.
During the meeting, Finance Minister Wagle said the government is committed to developing Nepal into a country of self-reliant and hardworking people. He said the government will work closely with the private sector to increase economic activities. He said there is a need to build trust and cooperation between the government and businesses. He encouraged the private sector to expand their work with confidence and assured that the government will provide support. “The government will give you space to grow. We are committed to building the country,” he said, calling for joint efforts to strengthen the economy.
Wagle also said the government will address problems where honest businesspeople are affected due to legal complications. He assured that businesses creating jobs will not face unnecessary difficulties and said the government will work to create a business-friendly environment. He asked the private sector to share suggestions on what changes are needed to improve industry and business. He said the government is ready to take steps to strengthen the economy and also urged businesses to work honestly. He said all groups need to work together for the overall development of the country and that joint efforts are important for economic stability and growth. He assured full support from the government but warned that strict action will be taken against intentional wrongdoing.
He also spoke about concerns regarding Nepal moving out of the Least Developed Country (LDC) category, saying the government understands these concerns and that the process will not happen immediately.
